Weezer - Weezer Star Pulls Out Of Live Shows
Gore Verbinski signs deal with Universal
Gore Verbinski has signed a three-year, first-look deal with Universal Pictures.
The director, best known for the "Pirates of the Caribbean" movies, already has a project set up at the studio, the video game adaptation "BioShock." "BioShock" will act as Verbinski's first movie out of the gate that he will produce and direct. The special effects-heavy tentpole, written by John Logan, is set in the mysterious underwater utopia named Rapture.
"Gore has a innate sense of what thrills and entertains audiences around the world, an unmatched ability to navigate genres and talent that elevates any film he's on with peerless imagination and craftsmanship," said Universal co-chairman David Linde in a statement. "He resides among a very rare class of filmmaker and is coming to Universal at a time when every conceivable option in the industry was available to him.
Said Verbinski: "The people here have a genuine passion for filmmaking and a deep appreciation of the cinematic experience... I look forward to taking my own productivity up a notch both as a producer and director, by building a brand that will focus on my core business while synergizing multiple forms of entertainment. We are at a confluence of media in all its forms and I am eager to create a company that will navigate and participate in this evolution."
Verbinski also directed a string of movies for DreamWorks, which included "The Ring," "The Weather Man" with Nicolas Cage, "The Mexican," starring Brad Pitt and Julia Roberts," and 1997's "Mouse Hunt."

Phish - Phish Fuel Comeback Reports With Festival Semi-reunion
Rockers PHISH fuelled speculation of a full band reunion after bassist MIKE GORDON joined guitarist TREY ANASTASIO onstage at the Rothbury Festival in Michigan on Sunday (06Jul08).
The festival surprise came just days after Gordon confirmed the group's longtime producer, Steve Lillywhite, is attempting to bring the quartet back together.
The bass player said, "The band has had a couple of dinners and they've just been great. We're all just excited about the idea of doing something sometime. I can't guarantee it, but I'm optimistic."
His remarks prompted former bandmate Page MCConnell to add, "The prospect of Phish reuniting is something I consider very seriously, and I think about it a lot... Later this year we hope to spend some time together and take a look at what possible futures we might enjoy."
And then on Sunday, Anastasio further fuelled the comeback rumours, telling festival fans at Rothbury, "If we could just find a drummer and a keyboard player somewhere..." midway through his set with Gordon.
Anastasio and Gordon performed a host of new songs but wowed fans with a rendition of Phish's Chalkdust Torture.
It wasn't the only Phish reunion of the day - Anastasio, who is a guest on Gordon's new album The Green Arrow, joined his former bandmate for his set later on Sunday. The pair was joined by Phish drummer Jon Fishman.

Led by the elysian guitar figure out of Nick Bowcott and the powerful lungs of Steve Grimmett, Grim Reaper's tough, bleak, simply melodically charged music incarnate British leaden metal's virtually democratic devices (and clichés) end-to-end the mid-'80s. The fact that Grim Reaper was capable of combination the above attributes so capably, even in truth excelled at none of them resulted in an passing sceloporus occidentalis "rags to aureole and back to rags" story, which somehow was as surprising as it was queerly trying on. Add to this a far from attractive optical esthetic (i.e., they were quadruplet crusty English dudes with handlebar moustaches, bad tomentum, and even worse teeth) and it was clear Grim Reaper was ill-omened to enjoy a limited hereafter in the freshly established MTV authorities.
Guitarist Nick Bowcott founded Grim Reaper in Droitwich, England, circa 1979, on the job with a numeral of different lineups in front teaming up with isaac Bashevis Singer Paul DeMercade, bassist Phil Matthew, and drummer Angel Jacques in clip to criminal record his song "The Reaper" for 1981's very influential Heavy Metal Heroes digest. Despite its incubation power chords and roughhewn sonics (or perchance because of them), the strain stood out from the album's other New Wave of British Heavy Metal hopefuls and landed the group increased touring commitments up and down the U.K. club circuit. But by the clip Grim Reaper eventually landed a record sell with main Ebony records a year later (on the intensity level of a three-song demo made with studio time won in a conflict of the bands contention), Bowcott had scrapped the entire band formerly over again and was now flanked by vocalist Steve Grimmett, bassist Dave Wanklin, and drummer Mark Simon.
Originally issued in November 1983, Grim Reaper's debut, Interpret You in Hell, was far more milled than the band's low single and ab initio seemed doomed for historical oblivion, since European fans steeped in leaden alloy history found little deservingness in the band's energetic merely rather ordinary alloy style. But to metal-starved American audiences, the record album (which giant RCA released world-wide the following year) actually sounded slightly fresh; at in one case accessible and belligerent, it went on to sell a quarter of a zillion copies and reached a selfsame honorable number 73 on the U.S. charts. Extensive touring stateside followed and the conservative media's baseless allegations of diabolical worship due to Grim Reaper's sour looks; leather-bound wardrobe; and sinister, fiendish imaging almost had them feeling like bona fide rock and roll stars by year's end. Once endorse home in England, the band required only nine years to track record 1985's sophomore Fear No Evil, which nearly matched its predecessor in damage of quality (and competent unoriginality), simply yet failed to replicate its commercial success. The bands temperateness friends at RCA quick lost interest and Grim Reaper's career of a sudden stalled in America.
Bowcott and company worn out much of 1986 attempting to regroup and afterward welcoming raw drummer Lee Harris, Grim Reaper finally announced its take back with a make-or-break third base feat, 1987's passably pleonastic Tilt You to Hell. Unfortunately, "break" would be the concluding verdict, for though the record album actually showed some former promise in the U.S., where it climbed to 93 on the charts, sales soon plummeted and it vanished from internet site. When ongoing discussions to re-utilize some of its songs in a film soundtrack too fell through, Grim Reaper lento undercoat to a hold and everyone finally went their divide shipway. Grimmett temporarily linked power alloy outfit Onslaught before instauration a newfangled band, called Lionsheart, while Bowcott found some notoriety as a regular editorialist for Circus Magazine and other guitar publications.

Spanish hip-hop duet SFDK formed in Seville in 1993. MC Zatu (born Saturnino Rey) and DJ Acción Sánchez (born Óscar Sánchez) originally derived their make from the acronym for the musical phrase "Straight from Da Kranny," just afterwards instituted the revised "Siempre Fuertes de Konciencia," or "Always Strong of Conscience." After a serial of autonomous singles including "Seville Krannz," "Tras Mil Vueltas," and "Esto Va en Serio," SFDK signed to the Zona Bruta label in 1999 to issue their debut full-length, Siempre Fuertes. The disc received minimum attention, a fate that as well befell its review, Desde los Chiqueros. Their third LP, 2001 Odisea en el Lodo, proved the commercial and decisive turning point, and in the awaken of its chart breakthrough SFDK toured Spain, followed by appearances in Chile and the U.S. The duette formed their eponymic label in advance of the liberation of 2005, which batty the Spanish Top Five. Los Veteranos followed deuce age later.

Calvin Harris isn't too impressed by the feedback of his number one single 'Dance Wiv Me' in collaboration with rapper Dizzee Rascal, as he isn't getting the full credit he deserves.
"I'm slightly frustrated with those who just think I sing the hook," Harris confessed to the Daily Star, after most people credit the Rascal for the song. "I did the beat, of course," Calvin continues, "but never mind, I'm made up that Dizzee is at number one."
